Markups on quotes

Add costs and markups to quote line items so pricing protects your margin.

Markups help your team price products and services from cost while showing clients only the final selling price. Use markups to protect profitability and understand estimated margin before sending a quote.

Open Quotes.

How markups work

Each line item can include:

  • Unit cost.
  • Markup percentage.
  • Unit price.
  • Quantity.
  • Total.

The cost and markup are internal. The client sees the final price.

Add costs and markups

When creating or editing a quote, open the line item pricing details.

Add:

  1. Unit cost.
  2. Markup percentage.
  3. Quantity.
  4. Unit price review.

When you enter the cost and markup, Fieldified calculates the selling price and estimated margin. If you change the markup, the price updates. If you change the price directly, review the margin again.

Estimated margin

Estimated margin shows how much of the quote remains after cost.

Use margin review when:

  • Discounting a quote.
  • Comparing package options.
  • Adding optional line items.
  • Pricing materials.
  • Reviewing salesperson quotes.

Markup and margin are related but not the same. Markup is how much you add above cost. Margin is the share of the selling price left after cost.

What clients see

Clients do not see your unit cost, markup percentage, or estimated margin.

They see:

  • Line item name.
  • Description.
  • Quantity, when shown.
  • Unit price, when shown.
  • Line item total.
  • Quote total.

Preview as client before sending so the quote is clear and professional.

Convert a marked-up quote to a job

When a quote is converted to a job, the approved line item prices carry over. The job uses the selling price from the quote, so operations and invoicing stay aligned with what the client approved.

See Converting a quote to a job for conversion details.

Save custom items to products and services

If you create a custom line item with useful cost, markup, price, description, or image, save it to Products and Services.

This helps the team reuse consistent pricing later.

Set default costs and markups

Use Products and Services to store:

  • Item type.
  • Name.
  • Description.
  • Unit cost.
  • Markup.
  • Unit price.
  • Taxable status.
  • Image.

Keeping this library current makes quotes faster and gives sales users a stronger pricing baseline.

Turn off cost visibility for quoting workflows

If your team does not want to use costs and markups during quote creation, manage cost settings in Products and Services.

Review permissions in Roles and Permissions so only the right users can see pricing and cost-sensitive details.
